Christina Sonnemann was classically trained as both
a harpist and singer.
She began
harp studies at age 7 with Jill Atkinson of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra,
continuing with Michael Jefferies. At 14 she began studying voice with Helena Bury. Christina gained her Associate in
Music, Australia (AmusA), in both disciplines.
Among Christina's many achievements are five
self-produced albums, solo recitals in London, Paris, Copenhagen, Jersey,
Ireland, Norway, Malta and the United States, a national broadcast on ABC
Classic FM and an award from the Australian Songwriters' Association. Christina was one of a select group of musicians
- the only female soloist - invited to represent
Australia at the world's largest Celtic festival, the Festival Interceltique
Lorient, in France in 2006. Her own original compositions reflect her wide
musical and extra-musical interests and are closely tied to story and personal
experiences; her primary inspirations have been the beauty of Tasmania's island
landscapes and the Creator behind them. Christina is a sought-after and dynamic teacher who has been invited
to conduct workshops and masterclasses for the American Harp Society, the Harp
Society of Queensland, the Jersey Harp School, the Clarsach Society (London
Branch), the Australian Harp Festival, the University of Tasmania Conservatorium of Music and others. Christina is
the President and Founder of the Harp Society of
Tasmania, Inc, and Australian Correspondent to the World Harp Congress Review.
